Hair and beauty is something of a pair, in a professional capacity, with skincare and makeup options providing ideal retail extras at the hair salon, and in a personal manner, through your total obsession over all things beauty (admit it). The 2018 Beauty Expo Melbourne hosted more than 100 innovative exhibitors on the expo floor, with innovations, networking and education that made the trip worthwhile and served to only increase attendees’ beauty addictions, writes Mckenna Uhde.
Visitors had the opportunity to explore a number of displays, attend expert panels and education sessions, and even enter into the newly introduced GenNEXT makeup competition. Whether your goal last weekend was to acquire the latest beauty products or expand your knowledge of the industry, this year’s expo held endless opportunities for both ventures.
“What a fabulous weekend we’ve had at Beauty Expo Melbourne! I’m thrilled with the experience that’s been delivered to our guests and our exhibitors,” said Cory Watson, Event director for Beauty Expo Melbourne. “There’s nothing like the buzz of a live event to make people feel motivated and excited about their profession, and all the possibilities for what they can achieve in the year ahead. Most of all we love being able to connect them with the amazing brands at our show that have so much to share with the industry.”
Many of these amazing brands were found down on the expo floor, where visitors were able to browse aisle after aisle of innovative stands offering new product previews from international brands such as MAC Cosmetsic, Inglot Cosmetics, Makeupnet, Aduro Australia, and many more. Alongside the high profile brands were products that were proudly highlighted by the expo as all-natural and Australian made, a major and necessary trend currently sweeping the beauty industry.
Next to the popular cosmetics stands stood the renowned Skincare Sanctuary, which was brought back after a successful debut stint in 2017. This year’s stand celebrated items from international skincare providers like Dermalogica, dermaviduals, Murad, PAYOT Paris, and Pevonia. Attendees were serviced by the stand’s many beauty professionals, who created customized skincare routines for those perusing the floor.
As well as stocking up on these must-have items, visitors were able to visit educational sessions dedicated to the latest beauty trends by experts in the industry. Topics including RF microneedling, treating common skin conditions, men’s brows, and microblading were available in the packed education agenda. Business sessions were also on the cards, sharing insider tips on using social media in your business, solo salon business success, and how to balance work and life as a small business owner.
“It’s been amazing; it’s my first Beauty Expo Melbourne and it went far beyond my expectations”, said Mia Connor, makeup artist and educator. “The makeup artists that attended were lovely, engaging and supportive. My education seminar on wing shadow had the most attendees I think I’ve ever had in my classes in any trade show that I’ve done…[the event] has got a good buzz about it… it’s a big accomplishment for me in my career for me to be associated with this.”
Next year’s expo is already booked in for next March, and this year’s dose of makeup, skincare, products and education has ensured we’ll be booking and re-booking for our annual beauty fix.
