Entries for Hair Expo’s 2019 Awards ceremony are officially opening up at the end of this month, and as you wait in anticipation and prepare your entries for another massive year of competition, Hair Expo has announced some updates to the usual awards process.
The Hair Expo Awards are the longest-standing hairdressing awards in Australia and New Zealand and are celebrated as the bona fide Oscars of hair. In 2019, Julie Piantadosi will continue her role as the Head Judge and Awards Ambassador, guiding the judging process and following on from her 2018 role in increasing the scope of the competition overall.
“I’m absolutely thrilled to be once again involved with the Hair Expo Awards in 2019,” Julie said. “These awards push our industry to be the best it can be and the talent that was spotlighted in 2018 was incredible. I encourage all hairdressers to think about entering in 2019 to push their career to the next level and I look forward to supporting entrants and judges every step of the way.”
One new development for 2019 will be the finalist announcement, with a new and dynamic personalised delivery of the finalists set to debut next year. The new announcement style will be more inclusive for those hairdressers located interstate in Australia and in New Zealand but will still make away for a dynamic event to celebrate finalists on April 10.
The event has also announced key dates for the upcoming competition, with entries opening in late October and closing on March 6. Then the finalist event will be in April, written submissions will be due on May 15 and Monday June 10 will be the gala awards in its usual premier timeslot on the final night of Hair Expo.
Weighting for the awards remains unchanged, with 50 per cent of an entry’s overall score assigned to the photographic collection and 50 per cent assigned to the written business submission for creative categories.
Awards honouring apprentices, colourists, salons, educators, business acumen, state hairdressers, team, session style and editorial talent are all up for grabs, with Hall of Fame and New Zealand Hairdresser of the Year and Australian Hairdresser of the year always headlining the evening.
Start preparing your entries as the industry prepares to duke it out for the fight of the year.
