ghd kicked off Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Australia before it had even begun, styling Bianca Spender last week at a pre-opening show in Sydney. With Mary Alamine as hair director, an undone look offered an androgynous aesthetic for clients to covet.
“I wanted the hair to feel relaxed and undone, yet still refined. Incorporating a wet look finish gave an edge to this style so that it wasn’t too feminine or pretty,” Mary said. “Bianca wanted the hair to look like fingers had run through it, like it had been ‘lived in’ –with a boyish flair to give some grit. Marrying masculinity with the wet look and femininity with the loose waves was key to achieving this.”
The resort collection fused couture and craft, showcasing distorted florals and imperfect drawing with unusual fabrics and creative decisions to stand out as the first runway of the season. The hair complemented this aesthetic in its relaxed, sensual natural, effortlessly fitting in with the standout designs.
Discover this very wearable style and get the look.
- Step 1: Spritz ghd curl hold spray ($28) into the hair and comb through with ghd detangling comb ($20). This will give the hair natural texture.
- Step 2: Layer ghd total volume foam ($28) into the hair, combing this through – this will provide fullness and assist in giving the hair a little extra volume. This will also create a wet look.
- Step 3: Blast the hair in sections using ghd air hairdryer ($220) to set the product.
- Step 4: Use the ghd curve soft curl tong ($240) to create a very soft curl, placing the tongs into the mid-length of the hair and wrapping one way then the other in alternate directions. The wave is softened by gliding the tong up and down the hair shaft.
- Step 5: Set grooves into the hair with pin holds at the front, and blast with the ghd air hairdryer ($220). Leave the pins for 15-20 minutes to set, then remove.
