Color Outside The Lines Australia by Paul Mitchell is back for its fourth year, offering hairdressers a forum to show off their knowledge, technique, skill and creativity when it comes to hair cut, colour and style. The platform is giving away great prizes and publicity to successful salons, all in the name of the ‘Live Beautifully’ brief as well as trending, wearable hues and the talent of the wider hairdressing community, with a trip to Los Angeles looming as a major drawcard.
Entrants go in with the chance to win the grand prize, which includes the competition trophy, participation in a collaborative photoshoot in LA, the return airfare to LA and four nights of accommodation, a tour of the brand’s corporate headquarters in LA, publicity online on the brand’s website, social media, PR releases and newsletters, as well as a Paul Mitchell professional brush kit. All of this is valued at several thousand dollars worth of prizes. Three runners up will receive a trophy, product pack, brush kit and publicity on the brand’s many online and social channels.
You can enter by first analysing the competition mood board, then map out your creative vision and find a model, while also securing all rights from the model and any make-up artist, clothes stylist and photographer used to create the image, all of which can be included in the release form. All entries must only use the brand’s Professional Hair Color, lightening products and styling products to achieve their final look, and be a head and shoulders crop, in full colour with no filters.

Tag @paulmitchellaus, describe the look, hashtag #cotlaus in the comments and make sure to mention the stylist’s name and the Paul Mitchell products used. Entries close on Saturday June 15 at 11:59pm.
In the judging process, 70 per cent of the assessment will look at hair colour technique, choice of colour and how the hair colour works with the haircut and style, while 30 per cent will be devoted to vision, creativity and the interpretation of the mood board. Finalists will be announced on Instagram at 8pm on June 23, while the grand prize winner will be announced also on Instagram at 8:30pm June 30.
