The Hair Festival Education Sessions offer a varied, two-day, comprehensive agenda in hair learning, with leading brands and educators teaching colour artistry, cut and style, business and so much more. The festival will show off some of the industry’s top educators presenting education opportunities available at a rare price. Read on for a list of sessions you can’t miss around the Hair Festival halls, over June 11 and 12 at Carriageworks.
Kicking off the agenda, ghd will present inspirational educators in their Creative Artists, Mary Alamine of Royals Hair Salon, Monique McMahon, of Que Colour and Rumbie Mutsiwa, Rumbie & Co, as they show off the new ghd duet style and all its capabilities. The Masterclass will cover editorial, salon-ready and social media favourite looks on various hair lengths and types.
In a must-attend education opportunity L’Oréal Access, presented by artists Adam Ciaccia, Justin Pace, Mat Johnson and Claudia Cataldo from across the L’Oréal Professional Products brands, will deliver technique‑driven, engaging, and trending content in a fun and creative session that brings Access to the stage.
Timely will show the diversity of the agenda on Monday afternoon, as top educators Nathan Yip, Sheridan West, Tamara Reid, and Kobi Bokshish showcase a panel discussion on all things finance, payments and future-proofing your salon to set you up for a successful year.
Sunday afternoon will deconstruct the effect of tanning on hair, as Auriche teach you how to help your clients prevent staining and long-lasting damage by sunless tan products, something that’s affecting up to a third of salon clients. The session will explain the science of why and how tan damages the hair and demonstrate how an innovative new Australian product range can be used to prevent, treat and restore tan damaged hair. It will help you to diagnose damage caused by fake tan and engage with your clients to resolve it, as led by product developer Lana Kelly.
In another original session, Floractive will be unveiling the power of Nanoplasty Straightening Systems on Sunday afternoon, showcasing a revolutionary straightening technology that is 100 per cent vegan and can last up to eight months. Trichologist MJ Floractive will showcase a system made using nanoparticle technology that deeply penetrates hair fibres without requiring any preparation.
Legacy Education by change-maker Jake Putan will inspire around the ideals of personal vision, teaching in tenets of leadership, embodiment and impact in an interactive session that challenges conventional ideas. Jake will also get you ready for the second day of the festival with a free meditation practice on Monday morning to cleanse the mind and soul and unlock your creativity for a big day of learning.
Joico present LIONISE with Carolyn Gahan, Joshua Congreve, and Felicity Bruce – a transformative event that will take you on a journey through commercial and salon friendly hair techniques to bold and brave evolutions of creative expression, with an emphasis on fashion, editorial and wig work.
One Zero One will present The Million Dollar Consultation By Leigh Winsor and Eoin McCarthy on Monday morning, which will deliver a two stop formula that empowers your experience as a hairdresser, and allows you to make more money and save more time, centred around consultations.
Showpony will present a class over each day with some of the industry’s most renowned names. Belinda Mills and Caterina Di Biase will teach temporary and permanent extension methods over pastel hues, Avant Garde looks and more, while Peter Thomsen and Jules Tognini will show off instant pops of face-framing colour and texture using a range of Showpony hair extensions, as well as teaching the secret to Showpony’s 5-Step cutting and blending technique for an invisible and premium finish.
De Lorenzo will also showcase two sessions, with Holly Breen and Angela Soong leading creative colour work, blonde expertise and application know-how. Cutting brilliance and barbering tips will come courtesy of Lisa Polini, Fraser Forsey, Ryan King and Ben Kane.
LOHY will present on Sunday with Curls Made Easy from Jonina Menzies, Kristy Hodgson, Maria Vaughan, and Belinda Keeley, which includes curl cutting, colouring, hydrating and permanent textures. These educators will deliver their salon experiences that teach the art of the curl and building businesses around it.
WAHL Professional has two men’s hair dedicated sessions, as Mark Rabone teaches the K-Flat Crop, a trending K-Pop inspired look, and Sarah Wall directs the Modern High-Top Fade, an 80s hip hop style that’s been modernised for today. Excel in cutting and texture with these two iconic men’s looks.
TONI&GUY present Meta Culture, the salon group’s new global creative cut and colour collection, dedicated to evolving cultural diversity. You’ll be inspired by artistic hair creations, while also learning about the new label.m hair care range with updated formulations, that are healthier, greener and more effective than ever before.
Seamless1 and Sarah Emilia of SARAH JADE will showcase her unique and renowned Zero Visibility tape extension application method, utilising the Seamless1 curling tools and showing off signature styles popular on social media.
You can learn five steps to textured up styling with industry expert Justine Wolfe of Polished Style, in a look and learn that showcases Justine’s proven metholdology on live models, while offering exclusive offers and prizes during the session. You’ll learn how to create these textured styles with ease, while also gaining insights into products and tools that support these looks.
Pivot Point will offer their unmissable Haircutting MasterClass, a practical and hands-on haircutting workshop where you will create two fashion-forward, salon-ready haircuts right alongside the acclaimed Pivot Point Education Team. This will be conducted over three hours, and with a certified Pivot Point mannequin to take home after the workshop and further online education materials included.
Finally, Sharon Blain will take her final bow at Hair Festival in the Final Farewell Look and Learn Seminar. Sharon has been a multi-award winning hairdressing legend for over five decades and in this special session she will offer her unrivalled education and on-trend styling genius in person for the last time. Sharon will showcase inspiration from her latest 2023 collections, Mademoiselle de The’ and Ethereal, offering a guide to special events, red carpet and wedding hair, with soft wave textures, dishevelled pony shapes and moulded face framing waves in a variety of both up and down hair shown on stage.
