The 2021 Met Gala came back and made headlines all day, with a fitting collection of out there fashion looks to mark its return, and the requisite creative hair looks filling our feeds as well.
Forget letting your hair down, the Met Gala is where celebrities make their hair interesting. Think all the hair and beauty intrigue of every other major A-list event combined times ten. The 2021 Met Gala, with the theme ‘In America: A Lexicon of Fashion’ didn’t disappoint, with so many worthwhile looks we didn’t know where to look next.
Here’s a highlights reel of some stellar, strange, transformative and bold looks that caught our eye on the feed.

Gigi or Jessica Rabbit? We were loving Gigi Hadid in this fiery red.

In her storied hair history, we’re partial to KStew blonde, and this cute high ponytail with a coiffed fringe made us feel like we were sipping milkshakes in the 50s.
3. Zoë Kravitz

Texture, shape and detail were all on point in Zoë’s glam braids.
4. Grimes

Grimes’ metallic upstyle and multi-tone colour was a unique take on styled glam. She paired the look with a metal mask and sword (?), sparking a theme of strange hair and accessory combos. Let’s take a look.
5. Kim Petras

Kim’s floor-length auburn braid complemented her horse head (again – ?), and also…
6. Frank Ocean

Frank Ocean went green to match his weird puppet baby. Celebrities, they’re just like us.

Colour was a big deal in general, so soccer star Megan Rapinoe fit right in with this purple hue.
8. Russell Westbrook

Russell Westbrook showed his patriotism in hair colour and print as well.
9. Hailee Steinfeld

Usual brunette Hailee Steinfeld stunned with this total blonde transformation.
10. Peve Davidson

Also Pete Davidson showed up blonde too.

Let’s not go past Troye Sivan’s blonde tips, either.

Another trend was power braids, cue Megan Fox.
13. Amanda Gorman

And poet Amanda Gorman.
14. Billie Eilish

Billie’s long hair journey led her to become Marilyn Monroe reincarnated.
15. Lupita Nyong’o

Welcome texture personified from Lupita Nyong’o.
16. Naomi Osaka

Naomi Osaka’s bold hair look caught attention, with a unique shape and bright features that complemented the whole look.
17. Maisie Williams

Maisie Williams’ twisted locks had the same effect.
18. Amanda Stenberg

Talk about a different type of crown braid, Amanda Stenberg’s braids wrap up in a neat little bow front and centre.
19. Gemma Chan

Princess Leia for 2021, Gemma Chan’s dual braids were another Met Gala feature.
20. Kim Kardashian

We had to end on Kim K’s incomparable look, where a long dark ponytail was the only thing exposed from all black fashion. You decide how you feel about it.
