This year’s chance to compete with the country’s leading hairdressers once again will be provided by the iconic Skills Show Australia. The 2018 Skills Show, also known as the Olympics of trade skills, will give hairdressers the opportunity to mingle with and learn from industry professionals while competing in their craft for national recognition.
The Skills Show Australia has for years hosted the best and brightest of trade professions in a vocational education and training event. The show has always been a celebration of trades, skills and industry excellence, with this year’s visitors given the opportunity to discover career paths through interactive events, demonstrations and competitions. This event is perfect for up-and-coming hairdressers to discover their talents and showcase their skills.
“The main goal for us is with the Skills Show is to promote skills excellence and demonstrate the importance of VET as a pathway for young people to consider,” said WorldSkills Australia CEO Brett Judd. “We are striving to be key drivers in helping our future workforce better understand the skills they need to adapt to the demands for a changing economy, all within a fun and interactive environment.”
The main event of the Skills Show is always the National Championships. At this year’s show, visitors will be able to witness Australia’s best young tradies in action as they battle for the chance to represent Australia at the 45th WorldSkills Competition to be held in Kazan, Russia in 2019. Competitors come from across Australia to represent the next generation in dozens of trades. Each competitor has trained and studied to earn their spot to compete in the national circuit, proving the competition an educational and exciting must-see event.
The hairdressing competition will host fifteen competitors representing thirteen different regions from around the country. The VETiS Hairdressing Competition will have eight competitors vying for gold and the national recognition as a representative of their trade and Skills Show Australia champion.
Though the skills competition takes much of the spotlight over the three day event, the Skills Show offers a program packed with instructive and engaging forums to offer education and inspiration to visitors. After observing a number of trade competitions, visitors are then able to then participate in Try’aSkill demonstrations from educational experts to experience new and exciting abilities outside of their skillsets.
In addition to the events focusing on expanding skills of the trade, the Tech Hub will be offering a look into current and future technological alterations that are happening within trades. To better understand how technology is impacting trade careers, the Tech Hub will offer visitors a look into the latest in STEM research and innovations, including demonstrations and presentations from AWS (Amazon Web Services) and VEX Robotics. These presentations will give viewers the opportunity to learn about current and future technology in their field.
After soaking up knowledge at the educational forums, visitors will be able to make immediate and direct connections to RTOs who offer national recognized qualification through the Skills Pathway Expo. Young tradies will be able to connect with industry professionals in a productive environment, to better improve their chances of career success.
“I’m fortunate to have realised my dream of working in the industry I love but never realized I could compete nationally and actually represent Australia. It’s an amazing experience,” said Best in Nation winner for Abu Dhabi 2017, Gaby Ware.
VET offers pathways to more than 500 careers throughout Australia, and the Skills Showcase Australia celebrates the men and woman who are representing the next generation in trade. This is an event not to be missed.
