Tousled, individual texture was the brief for a night-time showing of Auckland designer Wynn Hamlyn. Taking place off sire at the Entertainment Quarter Go-Karting Track, the edgy show, fittingly titled Rev Head, was complemented by hair direction by Keiren Street for Wella.
“It’s all about chic, considered texture. Our aim here is to create a romantic look that works with the narrative of the collection,” Keiren said. “It’s about embracing your individual texture to create that effortless finish. Remember to keep layering your product and having fun!”
Keiren described the hair look as “sporty, effortless and a little bit tough”, building up layers of product – in his estimation, using about 30 cans of the brand’s Glam Mist on the 50-strong group of models – to create a look like “you’ve been to the gym, gone home to sleep and have gotten up to go to the club”.
Working with personalised, natural and individual textures with hero slicked back edges, Wella’s EIMI Dry Me, Mistify Me Strong, Perfect Me, Perfect Setting, Ocean Spritz and SP Reverse Spray Conditioner also helped created the grunge-style aesthetic.
The collection brought striking silhouettes and eccentric touches like cut-outs to the race track.
Get the hair look below:
- STEP ONE: Layering products is key to creating a unique texture and an effortless finish. Break the surface tensions and prep the hair for layering with Wella EIMI Perfect Me. On the root area layer SP Reverse Spray Conditioner combined with Wella EIMI Perfect Setting, and leave natural texture at the back.
- STEP TWO: Gently rake the hair back with your fingers, then blow dry the hair back with a comb. Strictly use no brushes – comb only as it helps keep the natural texture of the hair.
- STEP THREE: Liberally apply Wella EIMI Ocean Spritz to the roots and set with a diffuser to create grit. Repeat twice so that you see the salt in the hair.
- STEP FOUR: Cut through product build up with Wella EIMI Perfect Me & Glam Mist, then rake through with your fingers.
- STEP FIVE: Gently use your fingers to pull the hair back securing with an elastic, low at the nape of the neck.
- STEP SIX: Halve the tied-off section.
- STEP SEVEN On the left side use your finger to loop the section back on itself and tie off to create a knot. Flip the tail over, split in two and secure to half the right side. Reverse and repeat twice.
- STEP EIGHT: To finish the look liberally apply Wella EIMI Glam Mist and Wella EIMI Dry Me to the remaining hair at the back to give it a gritty lived-in texture. Finesse the edges with Wella EIMI Glam Mist to make the hair look slightly damp.
