Five Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander fashion labels presented their latest fashion collections to usher in Australian Fashion Week 2024 for Indigenous Fashion Projects, showcased with David Jones. Redken and Kristy Hodgson of Jarahs Hair directed the hair look, creating a wet look made to feel like stepping out of the water.
The hair look was inspired the Water Lubra which is a Dreamtime narrative. Using Redken hero products Root Lifter Volumizing Spray and All Soft Argan-6 Oil, the hair team embraced the hair texture of the models with this added meaningful wet look element.
Titled ‘In Relation Way’, the show offered fashion creations from GALI Swimwear, Ihraa Swim, JOSEPH & JAMES, Lazy Girl Lingerie, and Miimi & Jiinda, with dancers, a didgeridoo and clapsticks setting the scene and legacy and country among the many themes of this important show.
The designers showcased women’s and menswear, as well as resort and swimwear in simultaneously wearable and artistic fashion, in evocative, colourful prints that told their own stories, with eye-catching natural accessories such as shell necklaces, and in modern, elegant designs amidst this diverse fashion offering.
