Australian Hair Industry Awards (Creative) Alter Entry Process

If you still haven’t completed your entry for the 2022 Australian Hair Industry Awards (Creative) in June, you’re in luck! Due to the ongoing difficulties of COVID, and isolation rules that make organising a shoot just that much more difficult, the entry deadline has been extended by four weeks to April 11 2022.

The change has triggered adjustments to the judging process as well, streamlining the system into one round of judging rather than two, which means all entrants now need to complete a written submission with their entered photographic submission. This is other than the Master Cutter or Independent Stylist categories, both of which do not require written content.

Beyond the two-part system, the judging process will otherwise remain the same. An international panel of judges will only see photographic entries anonymously, while the written submission panel will only see a group shot and the non-anonymous written content. Weighting between these disciplines continues to be split exactly 50/50. Hot Shots and the International Hairdresser of the Year category are both unchanged in this process, with images and submissions still non-anonymously judged in tandem.

Importantly, entrants are encouraged to re-download any documents, including rules, regulations and entry material, as the most recent documents include this update with the correct information and necessary content for submissions. Additionally, the awards period has now been extended to cover shoots and activity between March 2021 and April 2022.

“We will always look at ways to make the AHIA process work in the best way possible for our entrants and by asking them to submit written submissions as part of their entry alongside photographic collections, we are able to give them an extra four weeks which we know will be music to many ears,” the team said.

Finalists will be announced on May 9, before the in-person awards gala on June 13, taking place over the Queen’s Birthday long weekend with Hair Festival 2022.
