Hairdressing charity organisation, Community Hair Project, has partnered with hair extensions brand Base Hair Extensions, which will aid the inspiring philanthropic group’s mission to care for women around Australia who have experienced family violence. The organisation and brand connected as exhibitors at this year’s Hair Festival, joining forces to further assist those in need.
“After meeting the team from Community Hair Project at Hair Festival 2023, we learnt that many domestic violence victims suffer from hair loss, as the result of physical attacks,” said Irene Manyk, Co-director at Base Hair Extensions. “We at Base Hair Extensions understand that hair can be so important to a woman’s confidence, which is why we believe providing hair extensions to Community Hair Project will have a positive impact.”
Community Hair Project has provided over 70,000 free haircuts to those in need since starting in February 2017, operating in 150 locations around the country to help women suffering from family violence and the homeless. The organisation also gifts toiletry packs to those who need them and facilitates clothing packs when necessary.
“We have 300 amazing hairdressers and barbers that give up their time to help us restore dignity one hair cut at a time,” shared Community Hair Project Director, Christine Mastello. “We have 20 salons around Australia that close for a day and allow us to book in women from Domestic Violence Shelters to be thoroughly pampered. We also have makeup artists and nail technicians volunteer their time with us.”
Community Hair Project also facilitates hairdressing education in remote Indigenous locations around NSW, with a new mobile salon facilitating this education. The organisation teaches basic hairdressing skills to local Indigenous women and gives them their own hairdressing tools so they can look after the people in their community.
The organisation partners with institutions, brands and salon groups including Just Cuts, Vinnies and The Salvation Army, Headspace, mental health clinics, LGBTQ+ community groups, women’s refuges, and drug and alcohol clinics.
Congratulations to Base Hair Extensions for joining this important cause.
