L’Oréal Paris hosted a beauty lab in Sydney to showcase their all-new scientific innovations and the future of their beauty developments.
The brand taught attendees about Melasyl™, a key component in the brand’s Bright Reveal Serum, which is supported by 18 years of research and over 120 scientific studies. The component targets the widespread concern of localised pigmentation that leads to dark spots and post-acne marks.

“When we clinically tested Melasyl™, against 13 other anti-pigmentation actives, we saw clear superiority for Melasyl™, versus all others in preventing pigmentation across different skin tones,” shared Dr. Richard Betts, Ph.D., Scientific Director of L’Oréal Consumer Products Division and Head of Scientific Communications for L’Oréal Paris, who educated at the event. “Melanin is crucial for UV protection, but excess production leads to dark spots.”
“This molecule is what we call an inclusive tone management molecule. It’s not going to block any process of pigmentation, instead, it magnifies your own skin tone, meaning that you keep your skin tone, but you magnify it. It’s about respecting the diversity of skin,” added Anne Colonna, Global Head of Advanced Research at L’Oréal Groupe.

The essential ingredient responds to a global epidemiological study on pigmentary disorders, which revealed that half of all people report having at least one skin pigmentation issue. A global research effort involving the evaluation of 100,000 different molecules revealed the power of Melasyl™.
As such, newly launched Bright Reveal Serum fights to reduce up to 86 per cent of dark spots, precisely targeting excessing melanin, without altering the natural skin tone.

The Beauty Lab event showcased these innovations in Dr. Betts’ first Australian appearance for L’Oréal Paris, while also introducing the Australian debut of Episkin, which is the brand’s reconstructed skin technology that serves as a reliable alternative to animal testing. Guests were also treated to personalised skin consults with local L’Oréal Paris Dermatologist Dr. Lee-Mai Yap.
