A celestial wonderland graced fashion week this year revealing Deadly Ponies’ Resort 2018 collection. Yielding an ethereal aesthetic, the Australian handbag brand paired with the Redken team to encompass the brand’s latest range, writes McKenna Uhde.
An enthralled audience of VIP guests watched for that initial monochrome curtain drop, revealing the unique fashion experience and show behind it.
“This show was about capturing a character and environment. That’s why they decided that a presentation rather than a runway would form more of a concept in the room and allow for energy to flow,” said Redken hair director Ben Martin.
Counter to the traditional runway, Deadly Ponies highlighted their foremost pieces with a showcase of heavenly forest. The glowing halos of hair revealed Redken masterpieces, achieving the show’s perfect blend of effortless and extraordinary. The looks were lightly pulled back from the face allowing pieces to fall where they may while creating a simple feature in the back.
“We’re looking at a bit of a picnic at hanging rock and 90s inspired to look really loose and ethereal. We pulled the hair back around by the occipital bone with an intricate little rope braid to give it a detail without being too over the top,” Ben said.
This concept of raw and flowing locks lived perfectly in the Deadly Ponies grove, as models showcased the iconic handbags with minimal and natural flow. The pieces showcased modern trends including lavender snakeskin and translucent totes – an edgy contradiction to the hair.
“For the looks, Redken One United was totally our hero product. It is used on every model across the board. It allows us to hydrate and protect the hair while still maintain the natural textures,” said Ben. “It was also perfect to give a lot of movement without overloading on product.”
The models truly did float – wisps of hair flowing in slow motion. The show proved once again that opposites attract when the supersonic showcase featured simple Redken beauty.
