Hair Festival is where young talent thrives and there’s plenty of opportunities for emerging hairdressers to show off their skills in the Hair Festival Competitions. We spoke to Paige Casanovas of The Loft Hair Salon, last year’s Rising Star Blow Dry Hair Festival Competition winner, to gain her insight into why young hairdressers should take this opportunity.
As the 2024 Rising Star Blow Dry Hair Festival Competition winner, Paige won a trophy and $300 cash prize, thanks to Hair Festival Competitions sponsor O&M. This year, every winner and medallist will also receive cash prizes and trophies, while there are special gifts received from the brand on entry, just for throwing your hat in the ring.
“I love the energy of the live competitions. The music and atmosphere made the experience so exciting to be apart of,” Paige shared. “Hairdressers should enter the 2025 competitions because it’s an incredible experience. You cannot replicate the energy from that type of environment. It’s an experience I won’t ever forget. It truly pushes your creativity and builds your confidence. Whether you’re qualified or starting your apprenticeship, you won’t regret it. I cannot wait to compete again this year.”

Paige created a sleek and smooth blow dry on a copper bob, also styled with a curtain fringe that shaped the face and added an extra detail for the finished look. Through it all, her mother and family background in hair motivated her through this competitive process.
“I think what motivates me creatively the most is my mother,” Paige said. “She’s been a hairdresser my whole life and still loves what she does. I can go to her for advice and inspiration. It’s definitely made us closer and in turn, made us both more passionate about the industry.”
Nine categories across men’s hair, women’s styling, colour, new skills and more are available in the Hair Festival Competitions, as well as three overall Hair Festival Champions named in men’s, women’s and emerging talent. The Competitions take place on Monday, June 30, at The ICC, Sydney, across two stages in the Festival Hub. They are a highlight in hairdressing’s bona fide weekend alongside versatile Education Sessions, the REALtalk Business Forum for salon leaders, the Wonderland party and free Festival Hub of activations across the full Hair Festival weekend on June 29 and 30.
Young hairdressers can compete, learn, gain exclusive deals in the Festival Hub and network throughout the weekend for a true taste of the best in hair. Good luck to all the competitors!
