Australia’s own skilled colourist Rose Poli will be representing the country in the global hair competition Talent Greenhouse, run by Davines. As a top ten finalist in this platform, Rose will present on stage at the World Wide Hair Tour (WWHT) in Berlin, Germany, recognising her global achievement in this prolific mentorship program.
“I hope my participation in this competition will pave the way for continued collaboration with Davines on a global scale,” Rose shared. “I want to keep sharing my passion for hair, creativity, and research, while staying true to the core values that Davines embodies—positive impact, better practices, and inclusiveness.”
The WWHT, taking place from October 3 to 8, is the final phase of the Talent Greenhouse platform. Rose and the other top ten finalists will present their interpretations of the Davines Hair ID at the event’s Welcome Dinner on October 6, with the winner to be announced on October 8. This winner will be chosen from 95 per cent judges’ scores, with the rest to come from audience scores, with the finalists’ concepts, mood boards and head sheets available on the app, allowing for this interactive component.
The Davines Talent Greenhouse launched in March 2022, and is open to hairdressers of all experience levels, with no need for professional photography of photo editing. Fostering Davines’ commitment to creativity, collaboration, inclusivity and community, the platform prioritises online mentorship, with guidance for entrants around social media, trend forecasting, conceptualisation and colour design.
Rose’s entry is inspired by 90s techno culture, as conceptually set in “the aftermath of the Berlin Wall’s fall, [where] 90s techno culture was born in the basements of abandoned buildings that once lined the divide”.
“These empty spaces became secret havens for illegal nightclubs, pulsing with the fresh sounds of techno. More than just music, it was an escape, a unifying force, a message of freedom and self-expression. Techno wasn’t just a sound; it was a movement, it bridged divides and ignited liberation,” she said.
“The haircut draws inspiration from iconic 90s hair fashion—the short, sharp bob with a twist. Timeless in its fierce simplicity and boldness, it captures an era of attitude. The colour had to echo the essence of techno—bold, mysterious, and electric. Together, they capture the rebellious, uplifting pulse of the movement, where unity, self-expression, and escapism thrive in harmony and striking a balance of technical mastery and editorial coolness.”
Rose’s artistic entry is further inspired by Melbourne’s architecture, particularly the NAB building, which caught her eye on the train to National Gallery of Victoria. This building informed the entry’s colour placement, building on her skills as graduate of the prestigious International Colour Genius program within Davines’ colour education.
“This experience has been nothing short of transformative. It’s been a journey of self-discovery, from finding my unique brand identity to delving deep into the research behind the themes I love. The mentorship, education, and support from Davines have allowed me to refine my skills and broaden my creative vision,” Rose shared.
