Social media is increasingly the place where hair and beauty trends are born and elevated, and the addictive, viral platform that is TikTok is spreading those trends through the younger generation and beyond.
Beauty Daily by Clarins has looked into the TikTok numbers to identify what trends are gaining real momentum on the platform, to define how you perceive hair and beauty in salon.
For hair, the second overall hair and beauty trend is Micro Beauty, with an enormous 1.1 billion views. This ranges from red-carpet worthy micro-fringes, to trending and ever-popular bob haircuts. The trend indicates that long hair is less click-worthy in 2023. It can be complemented by beauty hacks such as short manicures in the micro trend.
Beyond that, the top beauty trend, at 1.7 billion views, is the pinks, heavy eyeliner, doe eyes, rosy cheeks and hyper feminine style of Coquette Beauty. Grunge makeup, with 774 million views, is bringing back 90s nostalgia – think smudged eyeliner, smokey eyes and nude lips, likely inspired by the hit Netflix show Wednesday.
Minimalistic skin routines, rest days and alternating products within these skincare routines – titled skincycling – and a focus on moisture also define the skincare trends, with hundreds of millions of views across these topics.
Keep in mind what your clients are seeing in their feeds so you can recommend, cut and complement the trends in salon. Thanks TikTok!
