The Northern Ireland Hairdresser of the Year winning collection, as achieved at the 2018 Hairdressers Journal British Hairdressing Awards and created by Damien Johnston, showcases the quirky editorial facets of your hipster dreams.
Stylistically, these facets include colourful fashion styling, original accessories (yes hipster glasses in their various forms are a massive feature) and bright prints against an urban backdrop. Bright eye shadow in a multitude of primarily copper hues defines the beauty look, worn with pale, clear skin and subtly metallic lips.
In the focal hair, creative editorial techniques abound – in cut and style, there’s a focus on short hair (with some long hair variations), undercuts, fringes and asymmetry. In the diverse group of images there are braid and up style features as well, plus a hero modern mullet look to kick off the collection.
With colour, creative hues sit alongside wearable tones, platinum blondes next to their neon yellow counterparts, and multi-dimensional hues that inject bold colour directly into these salon relevant tones. Deep red and trending pale peach are two looks that draw the eye, but brunette looks that show off unique colour more subtly also deserve a second look.
Winning this award across the pond, the collection is decidedly British but would fit in quite nicely right here in Newtown or Brunswick. Let the looks below inspire that aesthetic in your editorial palette.
