Editorial hairdresser, owner of Aston Wigs Co. and Studio Parramatta, and Artègo Ambassador, Matthew Ashton, took home the title of NSW/ACT Hairdresser of the Year at last week’s 2023 Australian Hair Fashion Awards, for an alluring collection titled A Journey Through Time.
“For this collection, I wanted to take us back though timeless beauty. looking back in history we can still tell stories through hair,” Matthew explained on social media. “Embracing classic elements and refining them into contemporary expressions allows us to pay tribute to the past while celebrating the elegance of today’s beauty trends. A Journey Through Time represents the harmonious coexistence of history and modernity, reminding us that beauty transcends time and is a source of everlasting fascination.”
The raw collection is shot in black and white, with a focus on inspiring short cuts, organic beauty and androgynous style. The collection was photographed by Jesse-Leig Elford with makeup by Vincent Phan and Liliano Artistry.
Matthew’s career has grown through the 2022 F.A.M.E. Team experience and beyond, and his editorial work has been featured in Rolling Stone, Harper’s BAZAAR and at Australian Fashion Week, as Hair Director for Karla Spetic’s showcase and for Asiym’s debut runway collection. At the 2023 AHFAs, in addition to this title, he was a finalist in the categories of Hair Shot of the Year and Editorial Stylist of the Year, highlighting the power of that work.
