We spoke to Wahl Ambassador, renowned barber, pioneering educator and salon owner of the all-new Our Way Barber Studio to talk tools, teaching and so much more.
Why do you partner with Wahl Australia?
What a blessing it is to partner with Wahl Australia. One of the biggest reasons I’ve partnered with Wahl is because they’re the biggest clipper company in the world being recognised globally in our industry. Also, the longevity of the company shows that Wahl will be here for a very long time, always innovating as the times go by.
What do you love about delivering education?
One of the biggest reasons why I love education is because it feels like I’m giving back. As an educator it’s important to stay humble and take your ego out of this line of work. I saw a quote really early in my education career that said ‘Share! Don’t show’, which always kept me grounded. Not to mention, the travelling around Australia is a big bonus and meeting and networking with people is such a massive plus!
What is your favourite Wahl tool?
The Cordless Super Taper is one of the most underrated clippers in the Wahl range, and overall, my personal favourite because of the power it packs in such a lightweight tool, allowing for clean movements through haircuts with such ease.
Having the taper blade is also amazing for off scalp cutting such as clipper over comb to glide through any types of hair density and texture, free handing for shaping, sculpting, and finishing touches for straight or tight curly hair. It’s a must have in my collection, whether I’m in the barbershop or educating.
Tell us about your new salon, Our Way Barber Studio.
When I first had Our Way in my head, I wanted a space where I offer everything in one service that most shops can’t have and a service that I thought I’d like to have if I was to get my hair cut. The lengthy appointments allow us to give a complimentary hair cleanse, neck shave, hot towel, cold towel, beer, water, soft drink and a spritz of a high-end cologne to finish off our services.
What is your number one barber tip?
Always invest in yourself, whether it’s through education, tools or your own personal branding. Remember, you’re never too good to learn! Also, this might sound a bit cliché, but always run with the times otherwise you’ll get left behind. That’s something I really believe in.
